Firethorn my second creation, was made slightly different to Ordell (my first creation), for a start I throw away the Fimo, as I found it dry and horrible to work with... (Many pieces were thrown at the wall), and changed to Super Sculpey which is far superior.
I also decided to try some different construction techniques.
The head I made, as I had done before starting with a small ball and building the features up... See HEAD TUTORIAL. It was the body that I changed...
In my first creation I had an armature, then a large lump of clay which I then carved the body into....
For Firethorn I made a core from Tinfoil (Kitchen foil), then wrapped the clay around... See TORSO TUTORIAL. This made the finished body a lot lighter, as it used less clay. It also provided a strong and stable base to work on, as the clay did not move around.
After finishing the body I started work on the arms and legs... These were made on wire armatures and then pushed and super-glued to the body.... This made them very secure, and stable while blending the arms/legs to the torso. Once finished she was baked in the oven (follow manufactures instructions), and then her body art was added, along with her, and facial colouring ect... Firethorn also had a mirror and tree in her final piece... These to, were made from polymer clay. Her Scrying mirror is a real mirror framed with clay.... Crystals were then added for decoration, along with witches runes, after baking it was gilded with copper relief cream. Her tree was made very much like Firethorn herself.... Tinfoil core, with a wire armature stemming of it to create branches... I then added the clay. To create the bark effect I used real piece of rough bark and pressed them into the clay to create a relief effect... After baking I then painted the whole thing in different shades of browns until I got the finish I liked... The finished piece was added to a wood base.
