Vivi & Ozzy, where alot of fun to make, especially because they were based on my daughter and my dog Oscar.
I first started as always with the head, following the same techniques as with my other creations.... Starting with a small ball and building up the facial features... See HEAD TUTORIAL.
I then began work on the body, using the same core technique...
See TORSO TUTORIAL.
However this time I had to make my figure younger... (Less Curves).
After creating the body, as before I attached the arms and legs... Making these separate from the body, as it makes it easier to add fine detail, such as fingers... See HAND TUTORIAL
After baking my whole figure, I added her outfit.... As this was also made from Clay, Vivi had to be re-baked....
You can however just use a heat gun to set small area of clay if you are worried about re-baking your doll... But be careful or you may burn them... Once everything has cooled I started to add her finishing touch... Paint her eyes, lips & eye brows, add her hair, add any tattoos, glitter ect... Any Skin tints added to my dolls are applied before baking and straight onto the wet clay, buy using heat set Artist Chalks..... These are great, easy to use, and give a lovely natural softness.
Now that Vivi is finished I could work on Ozzy the Bee and the base... The base is made from a piece of tree trunk and some artificial flowers... Ozzy is made in the same way as Vivi.... A core wrapped in clay, armatures for the legs and antennas, which were added as before after the body was made.... After baking Ozzy, he had a base coat of Black, all over and then his fur was attached.
His fur is made from dyed mohair and glued on to his body... Once dried the mohair was trimmed...
