BRIEF HISTORY OF MY DOLLS HOUSE
I received my Dolls House as a Christmas
present in 1992, from my Dad.
I had always wanted one, from as far back as
I can remember..... so my Dad made me one, and it was
fantastic.....
Everything was decorated and there was little furniture, 'A
childhood dream come true'.
For many years my Dolls House travelled with me,
through college, work... move after move.
Until I finally returned home to
my hometown.
As you can imagine, the poor thing was starting to look a
little less for wear.
So in 1997, I decided to give it a face lift, and
make-over, but unfortunitly I had to stop work in 1998, when my daughter was
born, and then came my
son, three years later and getting round to finishing what I started seemed impossible.
My kids are now older and at school, so I get
my days free, and this gave me the opportunity to finish a old
project...
I started rebuilding my house for the second time in December
2006.... Stripping everything back and starting again...
and so far she's
looking good.!
IMPORTANT INFO
Doll House Scale
The first thing you need to know and one of the most
important is that dolls houses are built to standard doll house scale. That is
they are built to a certain size so furniture and decorations can universally be
fitted into them. There are two standard scales for dolls houses: 1/12th scale
and 1/24th scale. 1/12th scale is 12 times smaller that real size and 1/24th
scale is 24 times smaller than real size. 1/12th scale is by far the most
popular doll house scale and most furnishings and dolls houses are made to this
scale. 1/24th scale is becoming more popular but there are far fewer furnishings
available for this size doll house.
SCALES EQUAL
1:12 scale
is 1 inch = 1 foot
1:24 scale is 1/2 inch = 1 foot
1:48 scale is 1/4 inch = 1 foot
1:144 scale is 1/12th of a inch = 1 foot
1:6 scale (playhouse's & Barbie house's) is 1 inch = 2 foot
